Uses: Straight, hard poles are useful and decorative.  Terrific potential for specialty pole production such as fishing poles.  In Japan, it used for teahouse rafters and special utensils. Edible Shoots.

     A giant form of black bamboo which becomes blotched with a mosaic of brown and black. The culms are not pure black but instead develop spots or patches of dark color. When the culms are cut and seasoned, the green sections turn a straw color, and the spots show cloudlike shades of brown and ebony
